CM Oragwu Chukwunonso wins 10th Maxton Suite Blitz Rated Tournament

10th Maxton Tournament was a Success. The tournament started late on Sunday by 3:00pm sharp instead of 2:00pm and ended for 7pm a full hour behind scheduled time. The organizer promised it would never happen again, hoping to have a clear record in time keeping but Sundays are unique days especially in the EMBER months.

Chief Arbiter: IA Ogbonnaya Obinna
Venue: 50B Maxton Hotel and Suites, 50b Ajose Street, Mende, Maryland, Lagos
CM Oragwu Nonso (2195) came clear first after winning a game against FM Anwuli Daniel (2242) in the last round! Daniel with an oversight touched his opponent’s pawn which can be captured by the queen only to realise it was very well protected!
Veteran Dashe (2023) defeated Balogun Oluwafemi (2199) to tie for 3rd place while IM Odion Aikhoje (2263) came clear second after defeating CM Charles Campbell in the last round!
IM Oladapo Adu (2314) and some other chess players protested on the late ruling of the decision which probably influenced the outcome of the game.
Samson Peace (1856) with a brilliant play came best lady after drawing the likes of Obioma Onuoha (1914) using the seductive variation (if there is anything like that) and also defeating Ekpo Ndopnse (2026) and Giwa Oladotun (1933).
Someone to look out for is under 20years old Bakare Toyosi (1796) who defeated Oluwalasinu Seye (2085), Ndopnse Ekpo (2026), drew FM Anwuli Daniel (2242) and defeated Samson Peace (1856).
Unfortunately we couldn’t get any games to present to you. We sincerely apologize for that.
The Vice President of the Chess Player’s Association Nigeria in person of Ms Ayokanmi Ajayi who presented the prizes to the winners. She has been featuring in most tournaments in Nigeria in person whenever she is chanced to. A real kudos for her effort!

Round 7 Report:
Nigerian Oracle (Odafe Efemuai)The battle between the FMs FM Balogun Olufemi and FM Onovughe Ochuko saw the former on top.
There was a case between Odafe Efemuai (The Oracle) versus CM Charles Campbell. The Oracle in a losing position claimed that his opponent played twice and pressed his clock. The actual fact was that there was a displayed pawn which was as a result of the Oracle himself capturing a pawn closer to it. He told his opponent to arrange the pawn to where it was. His opponent placed the pawn on the wrong square hence the argument and claim. The arbiter (not Chief Arbiter) Oyeleye Olawale was called on but didn’t give a decision on time and the argument prolonged for another 20minutes before the Arbiter ascertained that the pawn was displaced by Odafe himself unconsciously and he should be the one to arrange the piece to its original square hence the game should continue. CM Charles Campbell blundered and the game ended in a draw.

Dasaolu Rotimi defeated FM Balogun Oluwafemi with the black pieces to tie for 3rd place.
IM Odion Aikhoje won against Charles Campbell only hoping FM Anwuli delivers against CM Oragwu Chukwunonso.
The battle between Anwuli Daniel and CM Nonso Oragwu was full of action only for FM Anwuli Daniel with an oversight touched his opponent’s pawn which can be captured by the queen only to realise it was very well protected! Hence Oragwu wins!
